A Matter of the Heart
(Inspired by the devotionals of Chris Tiegreen)
We’ve all heard that real change begins on the inside and manifests on the outside. As I heard one preacher put it, “It’s an Inside Job”. One of my favorite songs – actually one that made me fall to my knees and cry out to God, and one that evokes those same emotions today – is entitled Changed, by Myrna Summers. It speaks of God’s transforming power to change the heart and minds of those who would hear and heed His call. Yes, it’s a heart thing, not something that happens simply by adhering to a set of rules. And we know from history that adherence to rules only lasts for a little while; hence the need for Jesus.
But how do we know that our heart has been transformed and that we have not simply made behavioral changes that only fail us over time? The answer lies in a life that manifests the fruit of the Spirit. A heart that continues to pant after God, craving fellowship and intimacy with Him above all else.
Transformation is an ongoing process and I submit to you that if we stay in the process, remain steadfast and unmovable in the work of the Kingdom, we will be that Salt and Light, those Living Epistles read of men, the Brand Ambassadors that have the power to change the world.
So what are we waiting for? Let’s Submit to God, Suit Up, Stand Our Ground, and do this thing!!!
